The complete flow for enabling Notion AI (included in the Business plan), with tips on using it alongside ChatGPT.
Notion AI is the AI assistant built into Notion. You can invoke it on any page to summarize, rewrite documents, generate outlines, and translate. Since May 2025, Notion AI is no longer sold as a standalone add-on; full AI is included only in the Business / Enterprise plans (Free / Plus can only try it). This tutorial walks you through the full flow, from adding AI to completing the subscription.
1. What Is Notion AI
Notion AI is not a standalone product but an AI feature inside your Notion workspace. It is frequently used in the following scenarios:
- Meeting note summaries: paste a meeting audio transcript → AI generates a structured summary
- Document rewriting: select a paragraph → “Make it more professional / more concise”
- List generation: enter a topic → AI generates an outline
- Translation: between any languages
- Q&A on Workspace: answers questions based on your entire Notion workspace
2. Pricing and Plans
Since May 13, 2025, Notion has folded AI into the Business plan and above:

3. Full Subscription Walkthrough
- Step 1: Log in to your Notion account
Log in at notion.so. Notion is lenient with geo risk controls; mainland China IPs work too.
- Step 2: Go to Settings → Plans
Left sidebar → Settings & members → Plans → choose Business ($20) → Upgrade.
- Step 3: Confirm the billing cycle
Business is $24/user monthly, or $20/user/month billed annually ($240 charged up front). For a team workspace, every member is billed per user.
- Step 4: Enter your card on Stripe
Fill in your RDVCC US card number / expiry date / CVV; copy the cardholder name and billing address exactly as assigned on the card details page.
- Step 5: 3DS + enable AI
Payment is charged after 3DS completes. Business takes effect immediately and AI features unlock. On any page, press the
Spacekey or use the/aicommand to invoke AI.
4. Core Ways to Use It After Subscribing
In-page AI writing
On a new page type / → choose “Ask AI”. Enter an instruction: “Write a product requirements document on the topic: virtual credit card KYC module”. AI generates a complete draft.
Rewriting selected text
Select a paragraph → toolbar “Ask AI” → choose “Improve writing” / “Shorter” / “Translate”.
Q&A on Workspace
Ask directly in the Search box: “What were our sales numbers in Q3 last year?” — AI searches your entire workspace for the answer, citing the specific pages. This is the core difference between Notion AI and standalone ChatGPT.
Meeting summaries
Create a new page and paste the meeting audio transcript → select all the text → Ask AI → “Summarize key decisions”. AI generates a structured summary.

Q: Which models does Notion AI use?
By default Notion mixes OpenAI (GPT family) and Anthropic (Claude) models, choosing intelligently per scenario. Which one handles a given request is invisible to users and cannot be specified.
Q: Is Notion AI safe? Will it train on my content?
Notion officially promises: unless you choose to share your data, Notion AI does not train models on your content. Data passed to third-party LLMs is used only to provide AI features; “zero data retention with third-party models” is an Enterprise-plan commitment.
Q: Can I subscribe with a mainland China card?
You can try, but mainland China cards are often declined. A US BIN card holds up better, though whether the charge goes through still depends on your account and the merchant’s risk control.
Q: How do I cancel?
Settings & members → Plans → Cancel plan. The current month’s fee is not refunded, and you will not be charged on the next billing date. You can keep using it until the end of the month, then it downgrades to Free.
